Have you ever purchased several pieces from one brand with the intent to wear any of the pieces together? Well, that is exactly what I did for today's collaboration with XCVI clothing. This post is essentially the beginning of a fall/winter capsule wardrobe. I'm sharing five coordinating pieces that not only complement each other, but they will also complement items already hanging in the closet. With just the five pieces, I counted eight outfits!
Why XCVI?
When I worked with XCVI last winter and spring, I fell in love with their stylish approach to the real woman, living out real life. For me that means, their leggings look like pants and feel like leggings! It means their tops are flowy, fit well, and make me feel cute.
Also, before this post, I owned two pairs of pants suitable for spring and summer, one pair of shorts, a couple of dresses, and a few tops from XCVI. This means I have a good idea of how their pieces fit! In addition, I've washed and worn several of these pieces repeatedly and they're still going strong. All of this made XCVI a company I wanted to work with again.
Where Do You Start?
If you're wanting to be selective about your clothing purchases and choose pieces that will create more outfits, this method may be an option for you. Not everything has to be purchased at once either. You can start a wish list. Even if a particular item sells out before you get around to it, there's bound to be something similar released. I've noticed this with XCVI. They restyle their most popular designs to match the seasons.
Anyway, here are a few tips to get your simplified capsule wardrobe started:
- Check Your Closet: Sounds obvious, but I'll say it anyway. What do you need? A new sweater, new long-sleeved tops, new pants, etc?
- What's two to three of your favorite colors? Again obvious, but what looks good on you, and what colors compliment it? For example, I chose blues, grays, and khaki for today's line up.
- Now go to the brand website and narrow your search (and save time!) by searching for "blue tops", etc.
- Choose two tops, two pairs of pants, and one completer piece. Once I had selected the colors I wanted, I chose one print top and one solid top. Both pairs of pants are solid and will work with either top. And the jacket works with any of the tops or pants!
- Check with a stylist. One thing I love about "smaller" shops is more access. As in the case with this lineup, I asked about whether or not two styles would work together, since I wasn't able to try them on in a store. They were happy to help and I felt more confident about my choices.
Choosing Sizes
Now that the organizing was complete, I anxiously waited for the clothes to arrive. Would I like them together? I sized down on the flowy tops and stayed with my standard size for the pants. Both pairs of pants have an elastic waist so I knew they would work with the ups and downs I experience each month. ;) Again, I own several pieces from XCVI, so I was confident about what sizes to choose.
The Cord Arrin Pant
Once the clothes arrived I tried them on right away and drove all the boys in my house crazy with my fashion show. Ha! Mamma has to have some fun. Here is a quick look at the Arrin Pant, Flare Pants. These pants are fabulously comfortable, but also unique with a double raw hem and a bell bottom. Also, pictured in this lineup is the Cabot Turtleneck, the Guthrie Mesh Top, and the Winifred Jacket. I love that this jacket can also be worn as a dress!
These pieces are sooooooo good Chrissy! I love the Arin pants I got in spring so I can imagine that the cord version is just fabulous for fall! Great styling my friend!
