What To Consider When Choosing The Perfect Spring/Summer Dress

If you could pick one dress for spring or summer what style would you choose? Before moving to Florida, I hardly wore dresses. They didn't feel like me. And, in full disclosure, I like to wear something at the waist to hold things in. However, living in South Florida forced me to seek out comfortable options for the hottest days. And you know what? The more I wear dresses the more I love them.  So today I'm excited to share what I consider to be the perfect spring/summer dress and discount code for you!

Here's what I consider when choosing an everyday dress.

First and foremost I check the material. Stay away from polyester because this material traps moisture, which leads to bacteria build up. The end result is an unpleasant oder. No thanks.  My personal preferences are cotton, linen, chambray and even rayon.

Pockets. Not every dress I own has pockets, but I love it when they do. It's just so convenient.

Versatile. Can I dress it up? Does it look cute with tennis shoes today and heels tonight? Can I layer it it?

The Right Color. This goes without saying but I'm saying it anyway. Does the color suit me?

Is it current, but not so trendy I won't want to wear it next year?

Is it flowy? There's an occasion for a fitted dress but not the everyday. I don't want to feel self-conscious about bulges, etc. At the same time, I don't want to feel like I'm wearing a tent so it helps if there's added interest, cuts, seams, and illusion creating hemlines.

Today's dress (C/O XCVI) meets all these requirements! It's 100% cotton and the double gauze material adds texture. There's pockets, it's roomy and has the perfect amount of details. Look for the tie dye wash, the raw edge hem and a fun seam that runs across the back. Bonus: It comes in two other colors AND you can receive 20% off your purchase with Code: GRANOLA20!

From walking around the beach, the park or running errands I was comfortable and confident. I already have plans for dressing up this piece but I'll save that for another post.

Now let's get to running errands!

For added warmth I layered the dress with XCVI's pullover. The gray tones in the dress matched the pullover, which is common when you purchase separates from the same designer. I also liked the way the color of the dress peeped out from the colossal knit style. Though both the dress and pullover are flowy, I felt the asymmetrical cut of the pullover gave me shape. When it warmed up I enjoyed tying it around my waist.

Whether I'm purchasing an item of clothing or collaborating with a brand for one, I think about what I'm choosing. I want to make the most of my time and/or money. I want to choose pieces that encourage slow fashion. I want to choose pieces that I will wear again and again. I want to be comfortable and confident. I want to love it.  I hope this post helps choose what best suits you!

Don't forget! If you love the dress or the pullover, you can save 20% with Code: GRANOLA20

  1. That is such a cute dress on you and it looks so nice for the heat! I am trying to wear dresses more - a lot of mine are knee length or above that feels too short for days with the kids, ha! But my maxis have been getting a lot of wear :)

Thanks for the link up! Hope that you are having a nice week :)

  3. I think you did find the perfect dress for FL! Love it and that bit of tie dye on it is so on-trend! Looks cute with the pullover and hat but would work well with a heeled sandal too. So versatile!

  6. Living in FL really does cause you to change up your wardrobe! I never did embrace dresses, though. I don't know why. The dress I bought last summer I'm going to give another chance--I think I'm going to dye it and add a few inches in length. If *that* doesn't cut it, I'm going to chop it off and make it a top! Anyway. You look so darling All. The. Time! The tie-dye dress looks so comfy and the pullover with the cutouts is w-a-y cool!

  7. Hi Chrissy
I do think of these things when buying and wondering if what I buy will be worn with more that one season. I agree about the fabric. I have a couple polyester and boy, you dont want to wear them in the summer! Love the dress on you! Such a pretty peach color with the added blue tie die, perfect on you! I love it and the pullover details are very cool!

  8. These are fabulous considerations! I was eyeing that dress as well, my goodness tie-dye is back in force. I don’t like too much tie-dye in your face but this is the perfect amount of subtleness to be on trend but yet so classy!

  13. This is advantageous if you are planning to continually purchase such items at wholesale in the long run. If you have been accustomed to buying in bulk, you surely would want to build a harmonious business relationship with a supplier. stoned emoji
