Generally speaking, I keep to the "tight-to-loose" guideline. However, with a few simple tricks, a relaxed outfit from head to toe can look put together, as opposed to sloppy.
Sponsoring this outfit is another look for you from XCVI clothing. The soft cotton/viscose blend sweater has an asymmetrical hem and the Dynamite Pants are softer than soft with a gorgeous nutmeg color and velvet stripe down the pant leg. I loved the items as soon as I tore into the package. However, the pieces were larger than I anticipated and I knew I wanted to style them together. Hence, today's inspiration for styling a relaxed look without the frump. ;)
Dynamite Pant/Mariarty Sweater - Use code: GRANOLA20 for 20% off your order!
- Add some height with heels. The slimming effect of heels keeps the frump away.
- Add a long necklace for a slimming effect.
- Throw on a hat for balance and/or to draw more attention to the face.
- Add a partial-tuck to show that you have a waist under that fabric.
- Ditch the tuck and try a belt.
- Have fun and go with what you feel good in!

Chrissy this look is so perfect on you! This clothing line really suits you, it's like they designed these pieces with you in mind. This topic is great too - it's hard to wear relaxed clothing and not look frumpy sometimes, your tips are great and make so much sense!

Kellyann
Kellyann, you're the sweetest. Thank you! I'm enjoying the quality and style of this line. I wish they had a store front out my way so I could try all the pieces on. lol
DeleteThat slouchy knit is the best and I love the relaxed look with the pants - this is such a great outfit you put together! :)
ReplyDeletehappy new year! Thank you for the link up!

Away From Blue
Mica, you're so sweet and supportive. Thank you. And I hope you guys are ok out there in Australia.
DeleteWhat a great topic for a post my friend! To me, you always look good together in this outfit is oh so sweet. I just love the colors and drape of it all.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You're one of my style mentors for sure. Taking notes and learning all I can. ;)
DeleteYou styled this well, and I enjoyed reading your tips on this since I usually follow the same tight-to-loose ration rule as you. Those pants look sooo comfy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gina. And thank you for giving me the correct terminology. lol. The pants are a dream!
DeleteSuch a cute boho look! love the pants!
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy!
DeleteChrissy, I love an all around slouchy look! It is super boho chic. You have totally nailed this. These pants are freaking fantastic, too! And I love your necklace. I agree with your tips as well for making this look work. I am wearing velvet joggers and an oversized sweater right now as well and I did the front tuck thing (shall we call it “the fruck”?) to give it more shape. I won’t be leaving my house today so I am not even thinking about what shoes to wear!

Haha, the "fruck". That scares me a little. I'm quite sure I'd mess that up. And your outfit sounds fabulous to me. Give me all the comfort. Seriously.
Deletethat's funny - I do the opposite -loose on top, tighter on the bottom... but that top has to COVER the bottom too ;) LOL
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, tight on top and loose on the bottom is the most comfy for me and I'm all about covering the booty. Cuz I have none. lol.
DeleteWhat a great post topic! These tips are spot on and your slouchy look is so cute! Love the boho vibe!
ReplyDeleteJill - Doused in Pink
Thank you sweet Jill!
Deletethis is a great post! I always worry about looking frumpy in my casual clothes! This looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Heather. I still have to take a good conscious look before heading out the door. lol
DeleteGirlfriend, frumpy you are NOT! I think this is one of my favorite outfits on you, Chrissy! Hope your week is going well with getting back into the swing of things.
ReplyDeleteLoving the relaxed boho effect of this look dear! So breezy and comfy.

I *really* like these pants! You said they were big. Can you tell me what size you're wearing vs. what you would normally buy? I like this bigger look and am wondering if I'd get the same look with an XL or have to go up to a 1X (which goes up by 5 inches!).
ReplyDeleteIsin't it hard to find that in-between style! It's so difficult to get it right, but you sure did. Thanks for sharing on the #linkup x Jacqui
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Great styling. Not frumpy at all. https://highlatitudestyle.com/how-be-ok-with-tossing-clothes/
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteAs Jimmy Walker used to say, those are DY_NO-MITE! those pants! I love the relaxed jogger style and the color is fab. I may have to get a pair. The colors in the top are lovely and look painted. Very good tips as I bought a jogger outfit I want to style on the blog but need to make sure its not to casual looking.. You look great!
