My Latest Thrift Find And Salon Quality Hair Color in a Box

Hello my dears! I'm back in my favorite heels and Costco slacks, as well as my latest thrift find for today's post. In addition, I'm sharing my current choice and manner of coloring my hair and then closing off today's thoughts with a smidgen of sap. ;)

I found this animal print cardigan from LOFT at Clothes Mentor a few weeks ago. With nothing like it in my closet and a "need" for a  trendy animal print, I happily added it to my basket. It didn't take me long to style this cardigan with items awaiting a new look...the Costco pants that I have on repeat, an old cardigan from WHBM and my favorite heels from a Chicos warehouse sale.

The earrings were a gift and the bracelet was picked up at Altar'd State during my Nashville adventures.  Here's to making good use of what we already have!!!

Sorry I don't have much to link up, but here's a few cardigan options I located on Shopstyle for you.

Hair Color

Ok friends, out of necessity I've colored my hair for about four years now, either by myself or at the salon. It began at home when I searched for a "cleaner" product that would cover grey and not look like a "box" job.   My search ended with Madison Reed...

BETTER FOR YOU

Ammonia, Resorcinol, and PPD-Free, with No Parabens Added

The granola in me smiled.

I was perfectly content with Madison Reed, however, when the opportunity arose for free color in the salon, I quickly succumbed. I sold out the granola side for this option to help our family budget, and for those sweet moments in the salon chair of a friend.  Admittedly, I would still be making those appointments had I the choice, but our move to Florida means changes for the hair. I share this because although I'd love to choose "clean" for all my beauty products, it's not always feasible or practical. We do the best we can, when we can, right?

That brings us to NOW. As soon as we settled into our new home I ordered from Madison Reed again. I've had two friends in the hair business apply this color for me and confirm the quality of the products, validating Madison Reed's guarantee...

Our Color Lasts Longer and Is Gentler on Your Hair

Your online profile that takes a few minutes to fill out, helps you figure out your best color choice. I've also chatted over the phone when I had extra questions and was impressed with their friendly customer service!

The color kits come with everything you need to get that head of hair looking shiny and fabulous, including a sample size of shampoo and conditioner for your first wash. My current color of choice is Volterra Amethyst - 4VR, but I may go back to brown when I get bored of the purple hues. Maybe.

Quick pros and con lineup...

Pros...
  • There is minimal odor or chemical smell.
  • My hair is softer when I'm done!
  • My grey is covered
  • The luster in my overall color has returned
  • I only have to color every 5-6 weeks
  • They have a colorist on standby for "live" chat to assist
  • They tell me I'm beautiful (I mean...)
Cons...
  • I have to do it myself
  • It's an added cost and added "to-do"

What's the price?

When you subscribe it's $25 for each order. If you want to order whenever it's $25.00 plus $5.00 shipping. Easy enough.   My grays start showing up around 4 weeks but I push my color for as long as I can stand it.

You can save $15 on first first purchase with my link...

A smidgen of  sap...

Yesterday was my husband and I's 18th wedding anniversary. We've had a lot of adventures together, but for those of you who follow the blog, you know this year was a biggie. After 15 years of ministry at a church in Georgia, we followed God's leading to Florida. I had to laugh when I read the opening paragraph in the card Glen handed me...

"Wow! What a year. This time last year we were sailing the seven seas with our friends. This year we are friendless living next to the sea."

This is a bit of an exaggeration of course, as we both have a tendency to add humor to every situation. We do have friends! However, we did go on our first cruise to celebrate my 40th and our 17th anniversary with friends, and we now live only 15 minutes from the gulf.

Big changes can draw you together or they can pull you apart. I'm thankful that by God's grace we are choosing to pull together in these changes! Love this man to pieces!

Many thanks to this cutie who heartily agrees to help mom out with her blog pictures...every time. Love this little man to pieces too!

Have a wonderful day and great week my friends! And I'd love to hear your thoughts on hair coloring! :)

  7. So we're one day apart on anniversaries :) We're the 28th :) Happy Anniversary!
I'm intrigued about that coloring. I used to order some from my hair stylist & do it at home... long story - she was my brother's ex & he didnt want me seeing her any longer (SAD) so she ordered the color for me. I loved doing it at home... so this may be up my alley!

  11. What a great find with the cardigan. I've been thrifting in Sarasota before, so I know it has a lot of gems! I decided to go pro when my hair got too gray to do myself--although I admire those who are committed to a more "granola" approach. Your husband and son are both adorable.

  13. Chrissy, my friend, I adore you so! Your pictures are so lovely and isn’t your husband just darling?! Plus, I mean, his anniversary card message. So funny! That is exactly something my husband would write, too. But, like you said, you are far from friendless! Happy anniversary to you both!

Now I need to go check out this hair color of yours...I try to do my own touch ups in between professional colorings and I absolutely hate doing it plus my stylist gets mad when I use really cheap disgusting box color! I use only get it professionally colored 2-3 times a year because it does cost so much and I push my color to the limit because I hate the process of doing it myself. Ugh. The struggle is real. Ha.

    1. Shelbee, your comment brought tears to my eyes. I needed to hear that nugget of kindness this morning. Thank you! As for the coloring, I so get you. I don't love doing it myself, so I try to rope in friends or family. haha. My mom happened to be here visiting when I needed a color and then a new friend came over to cut the twin's hair and offered to color mine! That's nice, right?? Well it's time again and I am on the look out for another willing body. haha.
