More Spooky Fun With Simply Earth - Makeup Remover & Creepy Crawler's Repellant

"Um, Mom! Why does he get to do the creepy, crawly repellant and I have to do the makeup remover pads??"

"They're Halloween Makeup Remover Pads!"

Perfectly placated, my youngest, by a mere 8 minutes, contentedly carried on with our third DIY project from October's subscription box by Simple Earth essential oils.  Just that morning he requested  "fun things" to do in the school lineup. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm not a crafter OR a planner, but if there are simple instructions and supplies waiting for me I'm all for it.

If the project is something we will actually use - even better! And today I'm sharing two more BENEFICIAL, Practical and Giftable DIY recipes.

*Warning: If you continue reading this post, you will be accosted by pictures of adorable children. I apologize for any heart melting that may occur, as well as any sudden desires to run out and adopt puppies or kittens.

I set out the supplies from the box and grabbed the only extra supplies needed to complete this project. Both the cotton rounds, as well as the small glass jar were already laying around the house.
From there, I let my boy take over reading and following the simple directions.

He carefully added two drops of the energy blend (comparable to En-er-gee by YL and Elevation by DoTerra), which is a mix of lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus oils, followed by a tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil to a small mixing bowl. After stirring them up he poured the mix over the awaiting cotton rounds in the jar.

He screwed on the lid and shook the mess out it.  Those cotton rounds are sufficiently coated! Side note:  I use standard and wide mouth, plastic mason jar lids all the time. They were purchased at Ace Hardware, but I'll link some for you below!

What's It Good For?

According to Simply Earth's research, the Lemon Essential Oil and the Eucalyptus EO have" antiseptic properties and give off a refreshing feeling". Also, the peppermint oil has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. I've already used this several times and can attest to the refreshing feeling, as well as the effective removal of makeup. Of course, it's nice to know that we're not adding any toxic chemicals to our face, isn't it??

The Creepy Crawlers Repellant

This little project can be done in five minutes and is perfect for a quick activity when you need a fun diversion from the day's monotonous tasks.

Big brother's turn. He proudly went about managing this DIY recipe "all by himself". The small sachet was included in this month's box, as well as the cinnamon oil so all we needed to add was the cotton balls and plug in the glue gun. By the way, that glue gun is one of the few craft tools I own. I'm so pleased with myself every time we take it out!!

He grabbed a handful of cotton balls, aggressively stuffed them in the sachet and then set about adding 10 drops of cinnamon essential oil with careful precision. He likes to observe the oil drop from the jar, all the while explaining to me how some oils come out faster than others. This is very true!

He couldn't wait to add the spider decoration and finally get to use that glue gun!

Mom adds labels and sneaky Pete snaps a pic...

What's It Good For?

During each month, Simply Earth sends out emails with extra details on the essential oils, as well as step by step instructions on how to complete each recipe. I like to look at their pictures (I'm still a kid at heart) and I'm grateful for the mini-education I get on the oils while I'm already using them, so I don't get overwhelmed.  This brain has enough to keep up with!

So for this month, I learned that cinnamon oil is a natural pest deterrent. I could put this sachet in my clothing drawer or hang it in my closet. I also learned that I can diffuse a few drops in my diffuser to ward against seasonal illnesses (another kind of pest altogether!) or add it to a carrier oil to relieve muscle aches and pains.

All Done!

October's Box of Goodies

*Disclaimer, this box was provided to me by Simply Earth, but all opinions are my very own, as well as the younger guys.
